The Freaky Tiki Bar has been a labor of love for the beach life, relaxation, socialization, and ideas for several years. My wife and children had been asking me for a few years to build an outdoor fish pond area similar to what we had at our previous home. The new fish pond was built in 2016 with a beach-like theme. We had an old exterior fire pit that had rusted away at the end of 2017. I built a new stone fireplace and patio area in the Spring of 2018 and when that was completed I took a look around and thought that there was something missing.
Yes, there was something missing in my back yard... a bar! Yes, a bar. Wait a minute... a Tiki Bar! A Tiki Bar would be a perfect fit for the beach-themed fish pond as well as my own personal love for the beach. Amy was on board with this vision. In a major coincidence, or sign of a greater calling, my neighbor, Mike, was replacing his old cedar fence and asked if I might have any use for the old wood. Would I??? Oh, yes!
My love for the beach dates back to approximately age 5 when my parents took the family on our first vacation to the beach. I fell in love with the beach and the beach life then and it has continued to grow over the years. I have been fortunate to have visited many different beaches over the years and my mind has stored many memories of sights, scenes, and experiences. When envisioning my very own Tiki Bar I took from my mind items that I had seen and experienced through my life.
I started construction of the actual bar in the Fall of 2018. Time was a major impedence for this part-time project. The bar was completed at the end of 2019 and the extended patio and then roof was completed in 2020. In 2021 I added the thatch roofing, decorations for behind the bar, built the cooler, and then also acquired The Freaky Tiki himself. While there were a few small outings at The Freaky Tiki Bar over the years, the first major event was our son's High School graduation party in June 2022.
Minor updates happen several times a year at the bar. I will add new signage, trinkets, decorations, and or anything else that catches my eye while out and about. I am always looking for upgrades and or additions. It has truly been a labor of love as I have labored and now I love it!
This website was started in July 2023 when I purchased "TheFreakyTikiBar.com" domain and started to build the site. Why... why not???!!! Do I know what I am doing? No! Please bear with me as I design and add items to try to make the site somewhat professional. My goal is to eventually figure this out so that everyone can share a bit of my enjoyment of The Freaky Tiki Bar.
